What was a defining moment in your career that shaped who you are as a leader and how did you navigate it?
I’ve had multiple roles and managed three different markets in my career. When I was being promoted to my current position as Senior Market Development Manager, it was considered a lateral move. The salary increase was nominal, but the workload and the responsibilities were increased. I was able to successfully negotiate a new title and salary increase to match the role. Speaking up for myself and what I deserved gave me confidence and recognition in my career that I wouldn’t have had if I had just sat back and went with the status quo.
What’s one barrier you’ve faced as a woman in this industry?
In a predominantly male industry with most upper management positions held by men, it is still a challenge to have a seat at the table and be included. Business is still often done on the golf course, so I’ve stepped up and learned how to play. I’m not good by any means, but if I want to be included, I needed to step up.
If you could give one piece of advice to the next generation of women entering this business, what would it be?
Be vocal and ask for what you deserve. Take control of your career path… don’t sit back and wait for things to happen.
