Heavy Seas

Hugh Sisson's name became linked with the Baltimore area in 1989, when Baltimore's first brewpub, Sisson's, opened its doors. After successfully lobbying the Maryland legislature to legalize brewpubs in 1987, Mr. Sisson was the first brewmaster at this pioneering brewpub. He developed a broad knowledge of beer styles and brewing techniques. In 1995, Hugh decided that it was time to leave Sisson's and move to a larger platform, so he established and developed Clipper City as the Baltimore area's largest facility producing high caliber beers for wholesale distribution. Hugh Sisson and a group of courageous investors founded Clipper City Brewing Co., LP, in December 1995.  In late fall of 1998, Clipper City merged/acquired the Oxford Brewing Company, Maryland's first craft brewery, established in 1987. At present, Clipper City manufactures almost 10 beers under four distinct brand names.

Clipper City Brewing Co.

Loose Cannon is called Hop 3 (hop cubed) Ale to reflect the enormous amount of hops in this beer: over 3 pounds per barrel! Also, the beer is hopped 3 ways - in the kettle, in the hop back and dry hopped.  This ale pairs well with a variety of foods including Thai cuisine, peppery or pungent cheese, poultry, shellfish and salmon.
